Dried citrus peel

Author: Ginger

Ingredients

  • Fresh citrus peels

Instructions

  • 1. Heat oven to 200°F
  • 2. Peel orange. Cut peels into large strips, so that are easy to work with.
  • 3. Using a sharp knife, blade placed almost flat against orange peel (similar to how you would fillet a fish). Remove as much of the white pith as possible.
  • 4. Slice peels into thin, matchstick-size strips.
  • 5. Spread peels out on a cookie sheet in a single layer. Bake in 200° F oven for about and hour. Check on them every 15 minutes to make sure they don't burn.
  • 6. Turn off oven and leave them inside to dry completely, overnight. They will curl and shrivel once dried through.
  • 7. Once completely dry, store in an airtight container.
  • TO REHYDRATE- place desired amount of dried orange peels into a small bowl. Add boiling water to the orange peels. Let sit for about 3 minutes (longer if needed for further softening). Drain water and use.
